Saturday Morning Western Pulp: New Western, April 1950

I'll resist the temptation to make a cliffhanger joke here. This looks like the usual fine issue of NEW WESTERN, with stories by L.L. Foreman, Giff Cheshire, George C. Appell, Rod Patterson, W. Edmunds Claussen, Max Kesler, and Robert L. Trimnell. With the exception of Foreman and Cheshire, those aren't big names, but the other guys were pretty solid pulpsters for the most part.

Aw, that's a wonderful cover. Promises bullet blazin', cliff hangin', gam revealin' wild adventure.
And that's gotta be a Saunders, right? The faces and the bullet richocet look like his style.

How do you suppose Firewhistle Jones got his nickname? There's a story there, I'm sure.

The Saunders website doesn't list this as one of his covers, and there's no cover credit on the FMI listing, so I don't know about that one.

Nor how Firewhistle Jones got his name, but I can tell you there were four stories about him, the first one in ACE-HIGH WESTERN and then three more in NEW WESTERN. I don't recall ever reading anything by the author, Paul Kingston.
